The Dem establishment behaves like constructing a mathematically “average” centrist candidate will make voters go “hmm, yes, this candidate must be good because he represents an amalgamation of the various demos of this district,” when they really just think “this guy can’t give a straight answer on what he believes in, he must be hiding something.”
