Real talk, though: Balloon Battle on Mario Kart 64 is some of the most legit multiplayer action ever.
We Must Return To Tradition: tacked on multiplayer modes with zero balance testing and nearly unplayable performance. I still get quite a bit of 4 player couch multiplayer play on my N64, just because so much of it's library had goofy tacked-on multiplayer.
