At the start of federation we had a user request programming.dev be added to our allow-list, we recently had a similarly upvoted request to remove programming.dev from our allow-list.
Recently, an admin of that instance reached out wanting to know what we could do to get programming.dev and hexbear.net back on federation.
I asked the admin if they would be open to continuing communications regarding any programming.dev users that are site-banned so that they could address the same user if they break the code of conduct on programming.dev
I went through our mod logs and found five programming.dev users site-banned from hexbear, two were for report abuse and three were for reactionary takes.
Programming.dev does not have any communities that would be considered reactionary, as the instance is focused on ... programming.
Their admin will most likely remove/block/silence any political communities on hexbear from the programming.dev side, as they are committed to removing communities that do not fit their niche.
Due to the communication from their admin, as well as the relative low amount of reactionary users relative to their 150+ active user base, I wanted to ask the community if we should add programming.dev back to our allow-list.

Are they removing/blocking/silencing unrelated communities hosted on other instances?

Hey, im the programming.dev admin in charge of community management. We are hiding communities in other instances as well (primarily all communities related to politics and communities that are 50% or more bot content) (ive hid some from lemmy.world, lemmy.ml, lemmygrad, etc.)
Its not a full block but it means the content wont show to people by default unless they explicitly subscribe to it. So it wont show up to people browsing the all feed
Just got it coded into the site last night so itll take effect instantly if you guys decide to federate (whereas before it was completely open which had some issues due to the amount of different views people in the instance have)

Would you say you personally have a commitment to keeping programming.dev safe for our trans users in the case of harassment based on gender identity, regardless of context?
Yeah we have a rule against hate speech and depending on severity people can be warned (and then other actions if its repeated) or banned if very severe. Due to it being an instance wide rule it applies to all communities in there and gets handled by the admins (which should mostly be me if im online).
Shouldnt be that much of an issue due to the nature of our instance being focused around a niche and so far has been fine in the instance with both hexbear users and lemmy.blahaj.zone users in there being fine to participate
hot damn a competent admin with good communication skills? yeah, this feels like a good sign. Changing my vote to
