Trump's base isn't going anywhere, nor is the energy he put out. He'll become a distant memory while these people latch onto the next far right fascist movement. Several QAnon believers are headed to congress.
The biggest wildcard is going to be the pandemic and the recession we're in which will become a full great depression next year as a result to Biden's austerity.
Richard Spencer endorsed Biden and said specifically that he can trust neoliberals like him and Harris to further his movement with material conditions worsening. This goes back to my long held belief that Trump winning in 2016 was a bad scenario come true for the alt right. It pushed them into the spotlight before they were truly prepared. Had Clinton won, that would've gave them 4 more years to grow and grow under another crappy neoliberal president and worsening conditions. Under Clinton with this pandemic, we would've had a massive wave of a far right reactionary movement that no doubt would've swept this election.
I've been thinking about how this pandemic would've grew under a Clinton presidency. She really had no plans whatsoever except upholding the status quo, much like Biden is going to be a return to said status quo.
The pandemic absolutely would've crushed her chances of re-election. I truly think Trump takes this election if not for the pandemic. That's the one thing that ruined it for him. Biden just narrowly won and the GOP still kept the senate and are in perfect position for retaking the house in 2 years.
Clinton wouldn't have handled the pandemic much better. We'd still have an insane high death toll cause this whole thing has exposed how badly our for-profit healthcare system is set up and defunded and privatized institutions. She would've had Republican governors and senators calling for her impeachment and not wanting to deal with her. The right wing backlash would've been insane.
IMO I believe we're still some years away from reaching the full potential of a right wing fascist movement, but Biden was the candidate who it's going to grow under. He is about to inherit the absolute worst economy and highest unemployment since the great depression, all with a raging pandemic going on which he has ZERO plan to do anything about this stuff. His entire campaign was just "not Trump". This is going to blow up in their faces so hard. He'll have exactly a year to figure out this stuff and when he don't, we're going to see some serious far right populism arising as a reaction to it.
