For me it was Andrew Bird (who I am currently on a binge of) and Fleet Foxes.
To a lesser extend, Radiohead and the Flaming Lips. Though I mostly just didn't care about them until I was older.

Everything is Illuminated is an OK movie, it's got its moments but I didn't really like the ending

where the grandfather kills himself because of survivor guilt (?) and his family becomes observant Jews just because they're genetically Jewish
have you read the book? I haven't read or watched either in like 10 years, but i watched the movie shortly after reading it and i liked the book a lot more
