Howdy folks, the holidays are coming up so I figured I would share a traditional recipe that my family always made for Christmas

Coquito at it's simplest is essentially an eggnog, but subbing the eggs and bourbon with coconut and rum

Coquito ingredients

  • 1 can of cream of coconut (15oz)(make sure it's cream of coconut, the same stuff that goes into a Piña Colada)
  • 1 can of coconut milk (14 oz)
  • 1 can of evaporated milk (12 oz)
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
  • 1 cup of dark rum (I like Kraken black label, but you can leave it out or adjust it if you want, it's still real good)
  • big pinch of cinnamon
  • smaller pinch of nutmeg

Just put everything into a blender and blend until smooth.

And as a bonus, I finagled together a vegan version that's just as good (if not better since it's way more coconutty)

Vegan Coquito

  • 1 can of cream of coconut (15 oz)
  • 2 cans of coconut milk (14 oz)
  • 1 can of condensed coconut milk (Take a can of coconut milk, put it in a saucepan, bring to boil, add 1/4 cup of the sweetener of your choice and reduce the heat. Simmer until reduced by half)
  • 1 cup of dark rum (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of coconut chunks (optional, but it helps make it thicker)
  • big pinch of cinnamon
  • smaller pinch of nutmeg

Put in blender and blend until smooth

Hope you all like it, it's real good.

(Also, picture I stole off of Google because at current, I don't have any Coquito on hand)

      Seriously, it's really good

I usually make a batch for Friendsgiving or whatever else I get invited to and nobody (aside from my partner, who is allergic to coconut) had ever said anything bad about either version

My wife is on a super low sugar diet so the drinking we do are hard liquor shots and the condensed milk probably has a lot of sugar im going to save the recipe for when we want to have a special drink may be out of season but I love cream of coconut + rum

I mean, homemade eggnog usually does

The stuff from cartons usually has other thickeners in it

      This is also very true!

Just make sure you use something that's freezer safe and leave room in the bottle for the expansion of the ice

It can be real messy cleaning it up if you don't

      Sorry

But, it's really good without the rum I swear

I usually make a big batch that I only rummy up half of

sounds delicious. for easing reading, may want to fix that first line of ingredients to be a bullet like the others

I was working at a grocery store and they were plugging this drink so fucking hard, specifically this drink made with Goya products. Every 10 minutes this woman was telling some dude about it and he said “hmm, sounds... festive! With a Latin flair!”

I fucking love how every ad for Goya products makes it sound like a 1950's housewife explaining to her cigar-chomping husband that it won't give you the dropsy

Protip: It tastes ok right away but develops a much better flavor when left in the fridge for a couple of days.
