Masutasto Oyama was an accomplished karateka known for various feats of strength such as knocking bulls unconscious, breaking bottles with his hands and fighting a 100 men back to back in a tournament without rest. He founded kyokushin karate-do . A full contact form of Bare knuckle fighting that didn't allow punches to the head but kicks to the head and throws were allowed. His training regiment and teaching of his students frequently led to injuries and strain. Kyokushin spawned some of the fiercest fighters in the world and best Japanese kickboxers. Some students try to recreate his fighting accomplishments by participating in 100 man tournaments. K-1 was inspired by kyokushin. Kyokushin and any of its offshoots usually are called by the umbrella term knockdown karate.
