    FWIW the climate in Cuba is pretty poorly suited to apples so that part might actually be true

      Except that Cuba imports fruit including apples.

      There some dumb drama about Cuban employees selling 15,000 apples to a firm a few years ago.

        How much apples do they import? I can't imagine a tropical island bathing in mangoes and all manner of exotic tastes would bother importing such a lame ass fruit while embargoed. Unless the apples themselves lets them create a loophole in the embargo somehow...
