As a purple belt, my greatest accomplishment in BJJ is this one time after class I was shooting the shit with people and my professors invite me and a few other people back behind the gym to vape weed.

And to be honest with you, one of the greatest rewards I have in martial arts in general is feeling like I can hang with everyone else. I go to competition class and I'll score a double leg on my professor. I'll be laughing with a 15 year old and an MMA fighter within a couple seconds of each other. I've heard a lot of people talk about not being ready for their belt or something: I accept mine in a heartbeat. I (used to) feel like I live up to the purple. I don't feel less deserving than the other purples. I would show up any gym and wear it. I hope to one day feel this way about Muay Thai and MMA, that as long as I'm in a place of fighting that I can make jokes, have a good spar, and feel comfortable in my own skin.

I love hearing stories about this. Martial Arts are seriously the biggest confidence booster.

I feel ya I’m one of the smallest guys at my gym and it’s nice to know that this stuff works when going against big guys. It’s nice to know that all that time in the mat pays off
