Combination of anarchists, advocates for independent unions, some maoists, other anti-cpc or anti nationalist tendencies that speak up more in HK than the mainland. There's also a small number of old people still around from October Review and Revolutionary Marxist League, which were HK far left groups in the 80s and 90s that recognize China's sovereignty over HK but also want as much direct democracy in HK separate from the party as possible. Most of the people I follow are decidedly Marxist, but not Marxist-Leninist.

I'd also say the average HK protestor is not a reactionary US simp, but an amorphous localism simp, adovcating for local sovereignty but having no theory of change or robust political participation, resulting in reactionary shit against the mainland flaring up because localism on its own is a blank slate that gets coopted.

As to which will win, I don't know. Certainly in the US media the anti-capitalist elements get no coverage. Nor do they in the pro-CPC left media. The protests are weird, with reaction occurring alongside radically anti-capitalist mutual aid. Dunno who will win in the end. At least one socialist got elected to the city district councils based off protest work and tenant organizing. Some are working hard to try and get the reactionaries out, as they want to get greater solidarity with some worker movements on the mainland, see this piece.
