my theory is that trudeau is trying to gain some points in the polls by acting tough towards a large non-white foreign power. like, canada can't reasonably expect to win an dispute with china, but india is somewhat smaller and less consequential (to westerners) as an world power. maybe trudeau hopes that he can work up some popularity feuding with india? what do yall think?

edit: i think trudeau would gain more cred domestically with a feud with china, but we already tried that with the huawei exec and china just doesn't care enough about canada to get that excited about it. also, canada imports 100B worth of goods from china and exports 22B to china. imports 3.7B from india and exports 2.7B. a lot safer for a smol bean country like canada to spar with India over china

i think its real, India has been complaining about Canada 'protecting' separatists (even though Canada is a sovereign country and Indian laws don't apply there in any way) for a while now and the death was incredibly suspicious. How Trudeau will use it for elections idk.

It also could be that Modi wants to use this to win elections next year like he did in 2019 with the Kashmir Attacks.
