I think there's some good explanation in that first thread. We should absolutely ban outright transphobic people, but I hope we don't create an environment where people are afraid to engage in conversation and ask questions. I think pretty much everyone here is or wants to be a trans ally, but not everyone is as well-informed about what is or isn't transphobic. Just because you find something obvious doesn't mean everyone will. Banning well-intentioned people who simply don't understand the issue entirely is counterproductive. There needs to be room for discussion without throwing the ban hammer down right away.
