bottom text. Off the top of my head I've liked Blindsight & Too Like The Lightning if it helps but I don't care very much, shotgun me recco's & I'll cram my 20 year old nook full while I've got time

Ha haven’t seen it! The Dispossessed and Left Hand of Darkness are both great speculative fiction :-]

Starfish is really good, also by Peter Watts. My favourite books are Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (A Napoleonic era fantasy written in Jane Austen's style) and A Canticle for Leibowitz (very catholic but also really good) if you've never read those.

I really really liked the third policeman by flann o brien. Dreamlike and humorously surreal, set in Ireland. It's categorically a crime novel but there isn't much drama, more black comedy.

If you're going for sci fi, I started to read Venus, Inc a while ago and never finished it. It's very good, though. Commentary on advertising and the environment.

Stephen King Dark Tower Series. You'll either love them or hate them, but if you love them, you'll REALLY love them.

For fiction, World War Z is a fantastic page-turner, and nothing whatsoever like the movie.
