ngl I'm a bit of a fuddy duddy and I think most of the non-LOTR ripoff races that aren't direct products of the setting (like Warforged) are kinda lame, like Tieflings were put in to placate edgelords who get told they can't play drow by their DM for setting reasons, and catfolk are just there to market the game to furries and cat-ear wearers.

I dunno, I guess I don't see D&D characters as a set of self-identifying signifiers, I did at one point for sure so it's not like I don't get it, but it doesn't lead to good narrative or group dynamics so I think it's something that broadly should be grown out of, and definitely not something that should be encouraged by the rule book.

EDIT: I hope nobody who likes Tieflings or whatever thinks I'm trying to shit on them for the thing they like, I'm not, I just think that table top games should be more "let's build a story together" and less "I'm a cool demon person"

Yeah his plus show seems to have introduced a ton of new people who are gonna do exactly what I talked about

        "guise aren't I cool I'm a TIEFLING BLOOD HUNTER"

I'm sure they'll grow out of it after a while, but they're gonna be annoying AF until they do

Yeah I mean D&D was definitely already growing with the nerd-consumer-identity people but that show was a big shot in the arm for it
