I had just dumped all my points in strength to make it easier for me to figure out what weapons to use, and I ended up sticking with the Ultra Greatsword for nearly the whole time. I put some points into dex cause I wanted to use the greatsword that the Abyss Watchers can grant you but I reversed course when I was worried it was just going to make me underpowered.
The series can be very obtuse to a fault, DS3 is probably one of my favorite games of the last generation though.
