Attempts at nuanced discussions about topics like the Ukraine war or Taiwan that don't immediately tow the state department line seem to always get dismantled by emotionally charged responses like that.
When I see remarks like this I ask myself, why should I care?
It always come off like an attempt to refuse critical thinking and fall back into a Marvel good vs. evil worldview.

so starting a comment with "as someone actually from here" can head off a bunch of "well i heard from a guy" or "i vacationed there for a week when i was 9"one that sticks in my memory is i was once told that i "lived under sharia law" (which doesn't even make sense btw, sharia loosely means law by itself) because they had heard it on fox news

"I'm a progressive/Democrat/European/neurodivergent" etc. Obviously, identity is very important, but the way Liberals use labels and identity is like bonus points in a video game. They use the "winning words" to give themselves +12 discussion points towards winning the argument.
So naturally, all they have to do is say, "Uhm, I'm from X country"
and pretend it's core to the discussion.It's really this simple, unless you develop a materialist worldview your brain is just going to take the easy route of letting the "my family escaped communism" bits reinforce your established biases.

Libs love feeling like they’re the only educated, nuanced people in the room, so “opinion of person who claims to be from there” is like the intellectual empty calories of that feeling. It tastes like expert analysis but doesn’t deliver the substance of it.
I think what guided me towards an actual ideology over time was the ick from reading those types of posts, especially the China ones. I think if you care to understand why things are a certain way, the "common sense" statements immediately fall apart.
