Afaik, guns are legal pretty much everywhere in the world? In at least some capacity (if only the military, etc.).
c/gardening has two big posts going about cannabis, check them out for more details on why that's cool for now. The legal entity that is chapo.chat falls under the jurisdiction of the state of california, meaning that cannabis is legal. And guns certainly are. This isn't the case for other drugs, so we're waiting until someone can tell us the legal specifics before moving forward on those comms.
I love me some drugs as much as the next comrade, but not enough to risk the site being taken down so I can talk about them here :P
So if cannabis is cool to discuss on the site, can we get c/cannabis? I desperately want to quit Reddit and c/cannabis is one of the only things holding me back.
I mean, sure! I don’t see why not! I’d be tempted to wait until we can just make c/drugs, personally, to help tamp down cannabis exceptionalism. But maybe c/cannabis will be a popular enough suggestion to be made in the meantime!
Cannabis is not exceptional. It is a drug like any other.
But I agree! The people want their drugposting. Myself included. It'll come.
There is obviously a lot of support for it, and I'm sure the site heads will make these comms when there's that right balance between demand and legal certainty. There are a lot of people who want a lot of comms, but everyone seems to be sticking to main, so we're trying to go slow and steady 👍
Meantime, cannabis posts are welcome in !gardening
So cannabis conversation is allowed on the site, but no c/cannabis because ... reasons?
And what about regional communities like c/LatAm? What about a positive masc space like @xN0VAx has been requesting for weeks? Seems like whoever runs this site is only interested in promoting the communities they want. It's disappointing that Reddit is a better place to find a positive masc space than ChapoChat.
I'm pretty sure I was actually the first person to post a c/menslib-style community, like right when the site opened. We're going slow with the comm creation because people aren't using them (have a look at the communities page and see where the posts are going).
The last two comms made were c/europe and c/sports. Those were massively-requested communities compared to c/drugs and c/menslib which, again, I really want both of them. I have also been advocating strongly for a c/mentalhealth, but we don't have the support or the moderators for it yet. It's a slow, complex process and we all have to be patient on our way to getting what we want. Someday, when the site is big and stable, community creation will be opened up altogether. We're just not at that point yet.
I don't make these decisions, I'm just attempting to explain the situation to you.
I think exclusively looking at post/comment quantity is a bad way to judge the usefulness of a community. I use c/sports, at least once a day since I joined the site, to find streaming links, just for one example.
That’s based. I think the plan is to wait until we find a lawyer willing to consult with us for free first, though, just to be certain. It wouldn’t be worth losing the site over a little mistake we didn’t notice.
Like different substances are (il)legal different places, and it’s hard to know when a jurisdiction might try to pick a fight. A lot of synthetic analogs are blanket banned some places from the moment they’re invented, but not illegal in others. And I dunno how jurisdictions decide when to pick fights
But! It’s great to hear you have lots of content in the hopper for whever we’re able to get around to that :red-fist:
Is there a reason c/guns isn't in the "legal grey area" category? Is c/cannabis going to have to wait for lawyer consultation?

It's clearly something folks around here want.
But cannabis is exceptional!

If you want to make something like c/LegalSubstances, I could kick it off with a lot of content.
