French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday evening that France would withdraw its 1500 troops from Niger by the end of 2023.
Macron also confirmed that the French ambassador to Niger, Sylvain Itte, would return shortly to France.
The moves come after weeks of pressure from Niger's junta and anti-French demonstrations.
Niamey residents felt relieved but remained on alert on Monday after French President Macron announced troops will be moved out of Niger by the end of the year.
The military junta in Niger had demanded Itte's departure following the coup on Aug 25 this year, but France refused.
The junta then ordered the expulsion of the French ambassador on Aug 31.
Relations between Niger and France took a cliff-like drop after the coup.
France has suspended visa deliveries in Niger and evacuated its citizens, while Niger has closed its airspace for all French-registered aircraft.

Yes. The struggle isn't over until the US empire exists only in the dustbin of history.
Has the new government indicated any resolution to remove said base?
From what I know so far, no. We'll have to see where this goes. I'm not convinced that Western plans for military intervention are cancelled.
I'm just hoping the coup wasn't US-orchestrated, is all
Very valid concern. I suppose we can't be too sure at the moment. The fact that Mali and Burkina Faso jointly back the new Nigerien coup looks promising. They've also jointly declared that any attack on Niger is a declaration of war on them all.
We should follow it closely.
