Aotearoa New Zealand has had a treaty in place for almost two centuries but it wasn't until the 1970s that it was truly honoured. So what happened and what are the lessons for Australia ahead of the Voice referendum?
A good read, and something we need to keep in mind with the referendum debate
Has anyone got any information about the Black People's Union? eg, the history of the organisation, who founded it and when, management, members and who the major sources of funds are etc? I couldn't find any information on their website.
Looking into them a bit further they basically want all non-Indigenous Australians to leave or live under their system
Join the Black Peoples Union in the call for a treaty between the Sovereign Indigenous Nations of this continent and help us work towards a future where our rights and sovereignty are respected and upheld, and where the illegitimate state of Australia is dismantled and replaced by a Union of Sovereign Indigenous Nations in a true revolution and liberation of Indigenous peoples.
They have information about what the beliefs are and what is wanted.
Just none about anything else, so how can anybody tell if it's a legitimate organisation that represents the views of thousands of members, or one bloke standing on a soapbox? Eg, ANTAR clearly states "ANTAR is a non-government, not-for-profit, community-based organisation driven by a voluntary Board of Directors and a small, dedicated team of professional staff." and you can look at their annual reports, their Key people and so on.
I guess conspiracy theories, the internet and phone scams, and everything else has made me sceptical by default....
Unlike many other political organisations and unions, the BPU receives no funding from the colonial Government or capitalist Corporations. We believe that a large part of self-determination is ridding ourselves from the constraints and conditions that come with being financially subservient to our exploiters and oppressors - only by being financially independent can we be in a position to challenge the capitalist and colonial structures.
