I was literally taught this as a child, that everyone who didn't have money was just really bad at managing their finances. But I was like, well, maybe not everyone is very good at numbers - shouldn't we, y'know, help them? Instead of just letting people become homeless because they can't count very well? Just one of the many questions I had that the adults avoided answering...
