Liberals feel entitled to power. Any disagreement with them is either foolish or objectively wrong, and therefore morally wrong. No matter what political actions the SPD took visa vis the KDP, they were owed support, and any refusal is in and of itself grounds for their blame and punishment, regardless of the circumstances.
