Once I goty yugioh cards confiscated and accused of witchcraft. This was the school admin too. My cousins were banned from playing Pokemon, but that was because the word "evolve" is used a lot.

What hit me the most was how the nice Syrian family had to move away after 2001. No one used to care, then suddenly everyone hated Muslims. I once had a school cop tell me to be on the lookout for anyone wearing a turban, ane I don't think he was joking.

Thankfully my parents weren't really religious. They were still very racist though. Like they didn't like when I listened to hip-hop or foreign music, not because of devil worship or anything, but they didn't want me becoming black somehow.

Oh man, I remember that 90s-era shit. Any time people complain about how modern day conservatives are wacko, I can't help but have a throw-back to the local pastor who had permission to stand on the UT Quad and spend hours a week arguing that the entire biology department was made up nonsense.

Oh yeah we had preachers at our college too. They were really aggressive and at one point told my wheelchair bound friend that she'd regain her legs if she stopped being gay. Outright called her a few homophobic slurs.
