I'm giving pickling cucumbers another shot this year. Last season I only got two jars worth from my six cucumber vines lmao. I lost them pretty early in the season because of a wind storm.

This time I'm starting them nice and early (probably too early, we'll see) in the hopes of getting a longer season out of them.

    This is so cool thank you for sharing.

    I've done a bout 8 plants densely clustered and trained up a trellis got a good bit of cucumbers but none the pickling process yielded shall we say less than good... but it was at a school so the kids had a blast growing them with me and picking them together.

    May the wind stay calm for those lil sprouts!!

    My gf and I are going to start a garden this year. We live in 5b. We wanna do things like onions, green bell peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, etc and a herb garden. Idk where to begin but my gf mentioned we should start seeding.

    Nice. I'm going to do cucumbers as well for pickling - I won't be planting my cucumber seeds for another month though. Hot peppers i'll start next week, tomatoes in 3.

    I work for a pickle/sauerkraut/kimchi business. For fermented pickles we do 5 % salt to the total weight of cucumbers. Cut the ends off the cucs, throw in some dill, peppercorn, cloves of garlic and red pepper flakes, then fill the bucket (we use 5 gallon buckets, but you'd probably want something smaller) till the cucs are just submerged. Put a plate on top and seal the bucket. Ferment for about 3 weeks, but maybe longer. Do some taste tests starting at 3 weeks. I'd recommend trying some sauerkraut too (2% salt) as it's pretty easy, you just need a mandolin.

    I used to love trying to grow stuff when I was a kid, but unfortunately I have a habit of getting frustrated easy. I tried growing my own corn and was doing pretty well, with about five stalks growing out of my pot. Then I opened a cupboard looking for something (over a decade later now and I can't even remember what it was I'd been searching for) and a lid for another container fell out and sliced (snapped?) all the stalks in half.

    Did the corn die due to that? I've no idea, but at the time I assumed they did and just gave up any attempts at gardening any further (I used to, and still kinda do, get frustrated easily).

    Maybe I should try and get into it again; I hate pets but I do remember I enjoyed trying to grow my own stuff.

      If you want to grow stuff, may I suggest psilocybin mushrooms ? here's a quick write up. Though maybe not the best choice when it comes to getting frustrated easily - unless your sterile procedure is good you may get contamination your first few tries.

    Shoot this is a good idea. I'm planning this year's garden rn and this could be fun. I've never grown cucumbers, are they as easy as zucchinis?
