Pretty well made video! I had only ever heard one song of hers one time and to me it sounded like some pretty standard bossa nova. Didn't know she had a wider range of stuff out there that was tricking people into thinking she's part of the jazz tradition. Really great point of his is the importance of the culture that produces the music in tandem with the institutions that promote it. A lot of parallels between that and even something like death metal where you can fit an enormous variety of sounds and styles under the death metal idea, but at the same time it is incredibly obvious when something isn't death metal even if it's using some of the same techniques.

I started watching Adam for the music theory/jazz theory stuff, but he's also consistently had very good analysis of culture/economics/politics of music making and the industry structure. His video on white supremacy in music theory education is also really solid.

Few minutes in and yeah I can tell that's something I'll have to watch this weekend! About to head out for some live music that will sometimes utilize the harmonic style of 18th century Europeans, but mostly not. Cannibal Corpse / Gorguts / Blood Incantation lmao
