It’s no good folks. Let’s all stop pretending to enjoy it and maybe it will go away.

    Thesis: art is bad

Antithesis: the process of making art is good though

Synthesis: everyone should make art as a hobby but then be forced to immediately destroy whatever was produced

Not sure that using Wagner's original plan for the Ring Cycle (burn the only score and the concert hall down during the climax of Gotterdammerung) is as leftist a position as we might like.

There really is something life-affirming about the minutiae of making art. The older I get, the more I really feel the process, and then become reluctant to finish anything. I get so attached to the problem-solving going on in any given piece, like finally I can feel like I’m using my brain and vibing with something that vibes back. It can be hard to cut that off.

I do also like looking at the end result, though.

honestly i don’t have a problem with art or music as background decoration. it’s just the worldwide societal worship of art and music that’s annoying. art is meaningless and boring.

I mean, if it wasn't for Bach's Mass in B Minor and Stan Roger's Mary Ellen Carter I'd probably not have been able to get through depression alive, but ok.

The Soviet Union, famous haters of the fine arts. Also, art isn't a drug, it's a type of meaning you can impose on this howling void of emptiness we laughingly call a universe.

Yeah, under communism we won't need nor want art.

I don't think it's boring and it's not any less meaningful than anything else in the world so you're wrong

I can kinda almost see thinking this about bougie paintings or whatever... but music is probably the most important form of art to people... Our brains definitely have some kind of affinity for music baked into them (in my opinion) - probably something to do with the fact we communicate by speech. I read an article about how dementia patients who can't hardly remember their names can remember songs from their youth - and can have a powerful calming effect on them when they get confused.

music is boring as fuck too, people pretend to enjoy it and idk why. like it’s not offensive or anything, but imagine inflicting the boredom levels of playing or listening to music on yourself

Music as sound is good, imo. As a way of conveying meaning, the way "artists" think of it, it's shit. It doesn't have any deep meaning. It's a way of manipulating emotion, just like drugs.

you just have a thing against art i guess. do you not enjoy movies, tv shows, or novels either? in any case it's a pretty subjective thing

I enjoy a good story. most novels are very boring.
