Do not follow this advice. This is how you get kidney stones.

Do follow the advice because it's correct. IF you are prone to kidney stones, drinking more water can help. But if you're not, then all you're doing is forcing your body to piss more and, if you can't expel the water for whatever reason, giving yourself Hyponatremia. Trust your bod to do its thing.

If you are thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

I don't think I'm going to follow the advice of a Youtube Short.

Well considering it is a youtube short made by a doctor, I think it's worth listening to, but if you want here's a video of a member of the negotiating committee for the writers guild talking to a doctor about proper hydration.

But the fact of the matter is that dehydration is not a problem for most people in america, while overhyration can easily become one. Even mild hyponatremia increases your risk of death.

I assure you, the amount of dehydration you may have if you're a little parched is nowhere near as dangerous as messing up your sodium levels.

That was one of the articles I linked to show that hyponatremia is more common than dehydration. The other showed that 6-7% of people have mild hyponatremia. I never said it would it would kill you, I said is can be dangerous to overhydrate. You don't need to drink that much, and there are cases where it can be harmful. Barring any health issues, only drinking water when you're thirsty also is not harmful.

most Americans don't drink enough water

No most Americans are overweight, and eat the saltiest food imaginable. That is way more likely to give you kidney stones.
