I've listened to the first episode of 'Wind of Change,' a podcast series investigating whether the CIA wrote the popular rock ballad of the same name. I'm reluctant to keep listening. It's unclear if the journalist understands the historic role of the CIA, or if he's just dumbing it down for his imagined audience. It is clear, though, that he's in total awe of his source, a shady captialist who works for Madeleine Albright and whose associates include tons of spies. It's maddening to hear him. This journalist has written solid investigative pieces for the New Yorker, but he's a fucking kitten for this spook and his spook friends.
That said, I learned one important thing in the 1st episode: tons of former CIA types end up in personal wealth management for J.P. Morgan, Bank of America, etc. Obviously had read reports on the close ties between those in the past, but never this specific connection.
So: Has anyone else listened to this? Is it worth continuing? Are there more goods to be had, and is it worth the depression I feel when I realize what an absolute lapdog this journalist is?
