  • The dude's a 20-something student, it seems, and part of a revisionist, pro-EU, US-collaborating party called "Just World." He claims this is Marxist. He dodges questions about fascist involvement. He doesn't seem to really have any real scope of the situation. I've read stuff like this in Dissent Mag, etc. from SocDem parties in Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. where they have the same naive outlook. They think democracy actually exists in capitalism and privately-owned media is more trustworthy than state media. Really naive and there's nothing you can say to stop it because they won't know any better until they've lived through it.

I think it's an issue with how they're edited like everything else to be slick but shallow with a lot of flash. The speed of the cuts and the constant need for background video definitely don't help. They just kinda' blend in to the morass of YouTube content that needs to get clicks and entertain for 20 minutes, even if they have things worth remembering they're registered as disposable content by the mind.

Him: "Did I miss the news about Canada disappearing 5000 people in 3 days with no charges and videos emerging of Mounties beating detainees lying on asphalt at police stations with their feet?"

Fuckin' dumbass. Literally happens all the time.

    He named it. "Just World"

The party is led by Sergey Kalyakin. On February 2007, Kalyakin visited the United States and met both chambers of the US Congress, Department of State officials, and representatives of non-governmental organizations in order to discuss ways in which the United States could influence processes that are taking place in Belarus. In addition, Kalyakin would suggest that the United States, the European Union and Russia should cooperate to develop a common policy regarding Belarus.

    I think they're like a 20-year-old dumbass.

I hope to see a democratic Belarus with a strong left-wing party advocating worker's interests instead of a regime protecting its personal interests by holding on to state power it inherited from USSR.

    Hmmmmm.

I wouldn't say the politics in it are great, but L and especially the ending go pretty hard against Light's politics. The entire show is predicated on the battle of their ideas and wits, so for it to favour one side explicitly defeats that theme. I do wish L was more of a leftist-revolutionary instead of a status quo-pusher to Light's semi-fascism.
