Also, waterways take a lot of maintenance. Like, the amount of effort that goes into keeping the Mississippi River open to shipping is crazy, and there are places where a ship hitting the side like this could cause massive flooding and shit. Wouldn't be super surprised if the Suez has some weird currents and whatnot just from the difficult of keeping it kept up.
