I don't really mean theory, more like an actual history book or a biography. What would you recommend?
Edit: I guess I should go ahead and mention that similar things about other revolutionaries like Thomas Sankara or Mao are welcome too.
Link to the Lusurdo Book; I haven't read it yet but it was just recently translated into english.
I see there's already some recs for Stalin so I'll throw in some for Mao.
Han Suyin - Wind in the Tower - Mao Tsetung and the Chinese Revolution, 1949-1975
And The Morning Deluge - Mao Tsetung and the Chinese Revolution, 1893-1953 by Han Suyin
They got recommended to me as more unbiased examinations of Mao and the Chinese Revolution. The Morning Deluge is definitely more Mao focused and chronicles his early life and revolutionary period. I think wind in the tower focuses more on the party as a whole in the post revolutionary period.
