It's a fucking obvious scam and people not getting it think they're just not too online to get it when NO YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE AND YOU DON'T GET IT BECAUSE IT'S A SCAM

Sorry but it gets fucking annoying that everything is turning into collectibles.

NFTs have me wondering what actually useful applications of blockchains even exist (beyond just financial transactions). Ethereum is Turing complete, and it's supposed act as a sort of decentralized computing platform. But who would ever want to have to rely on Ethereum for anything important?

If something is very important, that's a good argument for putting it on the blockchain, because it basically can't be messed with. This is the one and only advantage of blockchain over centralized computing, but it's a powerful one. NFTs aren't inherently stupid either, they can represent anything you like not just collectible artist signatures or whatever. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if we ever implement full communism, of the type where the state withers away or is absent to begin with, these consensus algorithms will be needed. If you want a group of people to agree on some rules and have those rules enforced immediately and with absolute certainty, until the group should decide otherwise, this is the technology you need. I'm hoping it will eventually be possible to divorce the idea from the concept of currency/value, I believe it should be possible, but that's technology that doesn't exist yet.

Maybe for a :vote: ing system or something.

Literally the only way I will trust in voting at this point is if I can personally verify that my vote was counted the way I intended.

Even then, media power and the influence of vast fortunes pretty much make it a moot point
