      wide be like [x x x x x]

tall be like [x^5] [x^5] [x^5] [x^5] [x^5] in the same amount of floorspace bc urban sprawl is a fuck

I think he's suggesting focusing on low and mid rise buildings. Obviously single family homes are space inefficient, but skyscrapers are really energy inefficient. Hell, something like a tenth of the floor space gets dedicated to making sure water and HVAC systems reach the top.

It's generally agreed that five stories is about the limit before a broken elevator makes the building basically uninhabitable. That is the point in which you can expect people with disabilities and people living at the top to be the only people using the elevator most of the time.

Also more than 5 stories and everyone living there is a stranger instead of a neighbor you can know and trust

obviously the solution is walkable 3d cities. every 5th floor have small streets connecting buildings, every 10 floors medium, every 20 floors "highways" but for feet. individual elevators for the 5 floor blocks too. Expand the neighborhood block into a cube
