Came here to ask what the fuck that pullup was.

Also largest 25lb plate I've ever seen

The 25 lb plate are called "bumper" plates. They're designed for olympic or power lifting. They're taller but thinner than like the normal big box gym plates and line up evenly so that when the weight drops it displaced the weight at the spot of each plate instead all the weight onto wherever the largest plate hits.

The pull ups are a crossfit thing. I don't have major beef with crossfit at all outside of the kipping pullups.

I do. I mean if they would just stay in their own gyms, I wouldn't care, but my old gym would have a couple cross fitters who would always be yelling and slamming weights and running around and leaving shit everywhere and they were just obnoxious people, but it was a uni gym, so the staff couldn't be fucked to actually do anything about it (which i understand, I probs wouldn't either).

but yeah the 'pullups' look like a trip to the orthopedic surgeon waiting to happen.

Yeah I meant like as a concept/workout plan not individual CrossFiters taking up entire gyms. Haha

I know the gyms are expensive, but they def don't take other people into consideration when they workout at other gyms.

It's funny how ubiquitous this experience is. Before COVID, my gym got overrun with groups of crossfitters who would take turns slamming medicine balls into the ground and whip ropes and shout loudly and all that shit.

Yea that makes sense I'm used to using the regular thick-black weights.

I actually think crossfit does some things very right.

The yelling is annoying at the normal gym, but in a box it's there to encourage people and get them coming back. It's like workout solidarity.

Also, it's one of the few places that teach Oly lifting standard, and every sport (including combat sports) benefits from that kind of explosive exercise.

They also have you working strength and cardio, creating well rounded humans.

Red gyms can take a lot from xfit tbh.

I agree. My only real complaint are the kipping pull ups and that there isn't a ramping up period for anyone (at least in my exoeeice).

WoDs tend to be largely the same if you haven't exercised in a decade or if youve been doing crossfit for years. Also, at least the boxes I've been to, haven't done a great job of teaching form to inexperienced lifters.

However, like you said, the motivation and comradery as well as the well rounded programming is very very good.
