Socialism is when you're mean to Kissenger, the more Kissengers you're mean to, the more socialist you are
China is not in a position like the USSR to rail against western enemies, the only country that really can do that is the DPRK and thats because their position can't get worsened by it in any meaningful way just like the USSR.
Kissinger as well from a Chinese perspective has contributed a lot to put China in the advantageous position it is today, which has benefited the Chinese people immensely.
Its not black and white from a Chinese perspective, as it is from other perspectives.

This was in 2018 and also seems like Kissinger was a guest.
Twitter is twitter, and also I should specify that most of the dunks are from the perspective of China as an intra-system rival to the west where China is beating the west at its own game, rather than China as the outside communist threat trying to fuck with the whole system.
Its a pretty important nuance and until circumstances actually force china into an outside position its smartest to stay in this gray zone of not being simply another capitalist rival but also not being a threat dividing the world like the USSR.
people who leave positions of power famously lose all power and influence
look, obviously this is kinda cringe but China does shit that's a lot cringier than Xi meeting with Kissinger and dying on this hill is a pretty lib thing to do.
here's former Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff (former guerrilla fighter tortured under the military dictatorship in Brazil that was supported by Kissinger) meeting with Kissinger, she praised him after the meeting. foreign policy and diplomacy is walking on egg shells, especially when you try to please everyone as China had been doing up until recently.

I don't particularly think Xi is trying to look good for us, Kissinger has in fact been a big part of China-US relations and getting China to the secure place it is today so theres reason from the Chinese position to be friendly with him, and just in general China is not trying to be an aggressor in rhetoric or action so as to keep the stable and secure position and reap its benefits for as long as possible before they are forced out of it.
