  • They only use uranium as an input because we want to be able to enrich it or use the byproducts in bombs, we could generate more energy for less waste if we weren’t a suicidal species

    uranium's pretty easy to work with as these things go. still, fast breeder reactors and thorum need more love, especially as the former can eat up some of the existing nuclear waste


  • that sounds nice. what's the best part of the experience? what are the do's and dont's of studying in china?

    A lot of that is also going to be dependent on what America’s Covid situation is at that point, and to what extent China will be open to people coming from our plague nation.

    they're gonna require the COVID-19 vaccine for a visa, no doubt. so will everyone else by 2021

    the engineering challenges have been known for a long time now, but there are ways around it. there are also other technologies that are viable, some, like the skyhook, are most of the benefit but possible with current tech. others, like orbital rings, are straight up better but have a high upfront cost to build
