Hello there.
This contains the most recent issue: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/1989401
There was also leaking DMs, subtle transphobia / chaser issues (a bit like the reddit 196). If you read the hexbear post they have screenshots
People are so caught up with hating hexbear users that the whole 196 mod drama is probably going to be overlooked. I'm waiting to see the statement from our instance mods before deciding if this place is really for me
I'm happy to apply if it means I can ban you
Well this has certainly turned into a shitshow....
I hope we can have camaraderie between them. This issue is very polarising here, so I'm really interested to see what the vote is gonna be.
I think I understand what you're saying, correct me if I'm wrong. I struggled reading it and it looks like others did as well.
You want us to engage in a discussion about if we want this English only OR encourage adding more languages (I don't know how we can attract more languages, but we can certainly try and encourage it?). You say that we could make it prominent that this instance is hosted in Sweden (it isn't too my knowledge) and make Swedish the lingua franca of this instance, but you see the issues with that.
I do think there should at least be some clarification of what languages should be encouraged from a moderation standpoint, but most(?) people here seem to think you want to block other languages that aren't English when in fact you just postulated the idea as well as encouraging adding more. Maybe it should mention somewhere that we're primarily English speaking despite having Swedish in the domain name.
From my understanding, this instance is not hosted in Sweden. It just uses the Blåhaj "theme" as it's a common icon among queer people. I haven't checked where it's hosted, but I just assume it's Australian run.

Putting this down as it may be relevant. It was posted very recently:

It would be a shame to defederate them. While they can be abrasive and a bit trolly at times, I think they add very diverse opinions and insights compared to the rest of the community. The most thought provoking comments I've read during my time here have come from hexbear users, even if I think it's a nonsensical take it's at least unique to me.
The brigading in the other post probably pissed a bunch of people off, but I couldn't help but find humour in that whole situation. It didn't seem too bad, just mildly annoying. It doesn't feel like it's a widespread enough issue to warrant defederating, but only time will tell I guess.
Hallowed are the Stargate posts here, keep them going
I made an AUR PKGBUILD for it so it's easier to install on Arch
Yay!
Edit: Just tested it with some wizard posting, it's all workings thanks :)
There seems to be some kind of problem with the images where they are cropping really weirdly (like they become 16:9), but it could just be my end.
Thanks for taking the time to upgrade things as well, it sucks when a "15 minute" upgrade turns into hours of work
Edit: checking 196 by new the images are suspiciously 16:9 https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/196?dataType=Post&page=1&sort=New
I haven't noticed much in the way of bigots from kbin, probably in part to the mods :P. Honestly, lemmy.world seems to have waaaay more issues with moderation; like, it seems that the worst of reddit moved there. I've literally seen people there throwing around slurs to insult each other and it feels like that's just to be expected as it doesn't really get moderated. Kbin.social is way more tame than lemmy.world imo, and if it were to be de-federated, then lemmy.world would have been ages before that.
I've been using it since it succeeded Antergos (2019ish) and I've really enjoyed it, I use it on most of my systems! It has really sane defaults and makes for a good Arch experience that doesn't involve setting things up yourself. If you like XFCE, they have the best out of the box theming I've seen a distro have for it, but there are other DEs that you can pick (I think you need internet access during the install IIRC).
It has its own repository that has some nice apps in it (like AUR helpers). The community around the distro is also really good, whenever I've come across an issue posted on the forums everyone seems really chill and noob friendly.
Other than that, it's basically a GUI Arch installer (an amazing one at that!) that doesn't get in your way and it just works. There's been probably one problem, in the four years I've used it, that wasn't caused by me breaking things (the grub incident), but the distro's response to that was very well done.
The only other distros I use are Arch and Debian, but EndeavourOS is always my recommendation for people newer to Linux. It just works.
Nobody commits to my projects so I was able to this lol 🥲
Also, if git push --force
isn't supposed to be used then why is it there? It's literally made for trans people to break git history /s
Praise the blahaj :3
I really wanted the two instances to stay federated and advocated for such, but now I'm not sure if I even want to be here. Here's hoping we can commandeer 196 and make sure it's based and doesn't end up like the reddit one
