Although Android itself is open source, a lot of the firmware needed for the hardware to work is closed source. One example is the modem, which usually can only be isolated from the system because it has very complex firmware. More about this can be found on the website of Replicant, a fully free Android distribution: https://replicant.us/freedom-privacy-security-issues.php
AI is communist, that's why it recommends me Ben Shapiro videos on youtube and is being used by the US military.
Yeah, looks like it's not advisable to run -Syyu unless switching mirrors, I'll update my original comment. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors#Force_pacman_to_refresh_the_package_lists
I would suggest running It's not necessary to run pacman -Syyu
every time you upgrade just to force pacman to update the package list.pacman -Syyu
unless switching mirrors(See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors#Force_pacman_to_refresh_the_package_lists).
Other than that read wiki and news items if something goes wrong after an update.
currently I have AdNauseum, Multi-Account Containers, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, Tree Style Tab, and User Agent Switcher
Haha the US would never have some thing so silly as social credit.
yeah, even though the first KISS has been completed Caltrain seems close to a shutdown. Article if anyone's interested in learning more about the situation: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/SFMTA-votes-down-Caltrain-sales-tax-proposal-15450733.php
i3 is a great wm for getting started with tiling. Recently I switched to herbstluftwm on my laptop and I prefer its tiling over i3.
I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative.
I've used Fedora for the past 3 years. Before that I distrohopped from Ubuntu to Fedora to Arch to Gentoo, and I settled on Fedora because it is stable and provides a nice GNOME experience.
My favorite episodes have been #261 Henry Ford's Henchman with Matt Christman as a guest and #346 Henry Clay Frick about the Homestead steel strike.
The Fedora minimal install is kinda bad in my opinion, but if you want to try it, it should be available from the netinstall iso.
I just use Fedora with dnf-automatic now so I don't have to update manually. Bleeding edge enough for me.
I like Arch, but I always feel like I have to update every second of using it. If you're not experienced with Linux/bash, I wouldn't recommend using an install script for Arch.
I didn't know the writers of STD were on chapo.chat
I would recommend getting some used Thinkpad as well, but it depends on your budget. If you can afford it you might want to get a System76 Darter Pro or Oryx Pro, which are sold with coreboot.
System76 is rumored to be releasing an AMD laptop with coreboot, but it will most likely be more expensive than most laptops with similar specs.
I have a OnePlus 6T but I'm interested in Linux phone projects since I thought they died after Nokia merged with Microsoft. Android updates are mostly needed for security patches, there was a big Qualcomm security bug found recently.
