That was my initial thought. The specialist mentioned dry needling in the same breath as something "they used to do" instead, though, so I got a weird vibe about it. I guess the main idea is distracting the brain from the major source of pain, so 🤷
I have similar problems that I'm still trying to figure out how to manage. For me, it's picking and biting the skin beside my fingernails, plus biting/chewing the insides of my cheeks.
When I paint my fingernails, it makes me not want to mess up the polish, so that can work for a while... but it also makes me a little dysphoric. I was thinking about trying some kind of cuticle oil or balm to apply when I get fidgety so that I can't mess with the dry skin. Not sure what to do about my cheek biting though. :cowboy-cri:
