Like all rich people, he is more than free to give up all his excessive wealth and ownership to his workers and live a modest life, unafraid of violent revolution. That's a choice he always has, unlike the workers he exploits.

  • Literally when I have an issue I already have to pick up the phone to someone, tell them what the issue is and that they need to fix it. So having a landlord makes absolutely no difference except for making it even harder to get anything done because they're typically lazy arses

My disabled relative has a tall set of outside stone steps, except one step is totally smashed and the handrail is rotted away - that could quite easily kill someone, I informed the landlord a year ago and many times since and they don't care.

So I'm paying more than a 1000% surcharge on the maintenance work to get a shittier service. If I would quite literally pay money for you to NOT exist, you are not doing a service for me.

  • Fukushima wasn’t too bad

Three nuclear meltdowns, three hydrogen explosions, 1000 sq. km. of exclusion zone, >100,000 displaced residents, unprecedented amounts of radioactive material dumped into the Pacific, at least 30 more years of cleanup required. All caused by what were deemed 'foreseeable' causes in a country that supposedly takes these sorts of things super seriously. Yeah, directly attributable deaths/unit of energy are fractionally lower for nuclear, but don't argue these things ain't bad.

  • As he states, it's not just maintenance exists, it's that replacement of the whole core is a massive undertaking that introduces a lot of uneconomical downtime into the system compared to most forms of maintenance.

If anything, I'd argue waste is vastly greater than perception. Low-level waste is dangerous for millenia and produced in large quantities, vastly more than renewables.

As always, nobody's arguing for staying with fossil fuels, but that nuclear is a silly option while renewables can just fix the issue.

And no, Uranium doesn't become magically easier to find once you built thousands more power plants. If anything, the proliferation of cheap renewables is making nuclear energy even less and less economical, if you massively scaled up demand for radioactive ore and made for high energy supply, it'd be substantially less economical than it is now.

The target base of players has also expanded about 10-fold since a couple decades ago. And because there is practically zero cost of distribution, that's just 10x the revenue at no extra cost. There is a reason these companies make obscene profits nowadays.

That isn't fun, as someone who's been suicidal for years, but starting feel a little better these days, you have my empathy and sympathy. :meow-hug:

I do wanna give props to your cool evocative writing style. And even if they don't really get it, it is nice to have people in your life that care about you enough to come and be kind.

Always sad to see a beloved pet go - any thoughts on getting more?

  • The article itself backtracks from saying all of NK was ordered to read books to "a singular group in one province was asked to read books and submit summaries". Even if this does have any basis in truth, it sounds like a women's org has just been asked to do some presentations on books? Not that this is a legal order on threat of death, nor is it to all of NK.

Sounds incredibly mundane and also citizen-inclusive.

  • Do people in America have nothing better to do than be concerned that a neighor's property that literally doesn't even touch yours has gasp, UNTRIMMED TREES?! And like, somewhat tall plants?! And it's not covered in death chemicals! And they literally like, have a boat that is on a driveway?

I really could not imagine caring less about any of this.
