I know he was replying to some chud, but this isn’t what I’d call a gotcha.

Before China's intervention, Tibet was ruled by a theocratic regime with a rigid caste system with "untouchables," feudal serfdom, extreme poverty, and human rights abuses. The average life expectancy before China was about 35. And at most it was only ever a de facto state that emerged during the chaos of early 20th century China (along with a host of warlord states), and was never recognized internationally.

The problem with "Free Tibet" is that China already did.

Tibet was still a serfdom in 1950. There's some debate about whether or not the 90+% of Tibetans who lived as serfs count as slaves or not (personally, I think serfdom is slavery), but there's no questioning that Tibet was cruel to the indentured. Your average Tibetan is inarguably more free now than they were before the revolution

If Tibetans were being oppressed, they would logically be fleeing from TAR (Tibet Autonomous Region).

Instead, Tibetan diaspora from India are returning to TAR which indicates that the opposite is true.
