There's a popular leftist podcast called "Chapo Trap House". The name is just a joke they came up with in the first episode when thinking of a name for the podcast. El Chapo himself doesn't really have anything to do with socialism.
It was a controversial change at the time, even though the community had long since evolved past being the podcast it was named after, but it's grown on me over time
It's all in the podcast, this community comes from /r/chapotraphouse which was the podcast's unofficial subreddit. The subreddit outgrew the podcast, got banned, and moved here.

How did this community spring from something Chapo-related? What does El Chapo have to do with socialism?

Did it have to do with El Chapo Guzman from the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico?
The name always kinda threw me off, honestly.
Kind of. It was a throwaway joke that ended up sticking, but it was supposed to sound like a trap mixtape
Fair enough. I prefer hexbear as a name and logo anyway.

All we want to be is El Chapo... at least all the power posters I know.
