As a queer, I'd like to say that I've seen these kinds of people bring up Christian persecution in the Middle East and North Africa thousands of times in order to deflect responsibility for anti-queer sentiments/legislation by Christians in western countries. Apparently supporting the oppressed despite having ideological differences isn't important when it doesn't benefit them.
