Lately I've had success by spelling out these peoples' plan for them. They've convinced themselves that things are desperate and they're one lost election away from fascism, but for some reason they only think about the most imminent election (I guess because they think losing it means there will never be another, although this is still a fringe idea). They have to win the election after that too. So their grand plan is to never lose an election with a party that doesn't respond to peoples' needs and whose only real selling point is that they aren't explicitly fascist. Just vocalizing this goes a long way. It shifts the framing from this one singular election to all future elections.
