I just watched a guy cover tinned beans in mayonnaise and call it bean salad.

Edit: This is the definition of salad people.

USian restaurants: no we don't have any vegan or even vegetarian salads, but if you want we can charge you full price and just not put grilled chicken on top

A "garden salad" that doesn't include the ½ inch of shredded cheese in the ingredient list 🤮

Where I am now has pretty solid vegan options on the menu but places I've worked that don't I've let front of house know if anyone they serve is vegan I'll come talk to them and we'll figure something out. I could do rice bowls of various flavors, burritos, a few pastas, it wasn't hard to improv a decent dish

I need one of you in every non-Asian or non-vegan restaurant in my town.

Ordered a marinara and pasta dish at dinner event a few months back and told them no dairy or meat and it came with fucking cheese on it. Then the wait staff tried to gaslight me into not recognizing melted grated Parm on the prongs of my fork. But comped me a beer "just in case".

It was supposed to be an easy meal to request and they still managed to fuck it up. And no it didn't say it came with cheese. I'm still mad about. Pasta, marinara, veggies. How hard is that?

im-vegan but don't always have the option to cook at vegan places cause there's 2 and the one I worked at before can't pay me what I'm getting now, employment is a series of moral compromises anyway, so here I am. But I do always try to get some good vegan options on the menu if not have some recipes in the chamber so we can put something together. Usually it's cooks and chefs being absolutely tradition brained with food and literally don't understand food that doesn't have meat. Especially now it's something that at least the chef would like to cater to but they've never gone a week without meat themselves, which if your job is to know food in and out, you should be able to make a decent vegan dish pretty easily. However, most are also happy to learn cause getting to really know veggies has universal applications too.

I'm usually stoked to make up a vegan thing cause it means I can get a bit creative and make off menu stuff.

I did clarify my comment. I meant any non-vegan restaurant. I reread that just now and realized it wasn't clear.

We do have a nice "gastro" place that has a really good selection of vegan stuff and they usually have a vegan version of their special. We are regulars enough that the girl hat runs the register knows that I will prob get the vegan special regardless of what it is. The thing that sucks is that I've been meaning to get their mushroom tacos again but every special when we go sounds so good. Last week they has a vegan lasagna and it was probably the best lasagna I had vegan or not.

We have a food truck that has a pretty big menu for a food truck but the guy also made an asserted effort to have a full vegan menu too. He's super nice and I'm a regular there too. We have one other full vegan truck too ran by 2 sisters that used to be part of our local Food Not Bombs but wanted to do the food truck thing. Leftist vegans in my shithole Texas town? What?

But other than that, taco bell is hit and miss on if they can even get an order right and I still have to check the menu ahead of time when I go to most other places in town so I am not trying to fined something to eat on the spot.

I wish there was more places that did what you do and try and cater to us other pesky vegans and know that vegan isn't the same as gluten free... smh...

Maybe for my midlife crisis I will start a vegan restaurant...

I've tried to emphasize at places that if you have good vegan options that automatically gets you so many regulars. Eating out is hard for a vegan and word spreads quick if there's good slop.
