Every chud in my life is obsessed with someone breaking into their house and the situation being resolved with the discharge of a firearm. And these are people living in low crime areas out in the suburbs, with no pedestrians. It's frustrating to talk with these people since their whole worldview is a racist panic over some imagined brown interloper invading their white fortresses.

One of my coworkers tells me he always pulls out his Glock to check the corners when he comes home in the evening. Another has a CCTV system and an AR15 by his bed. I personally don't own a gun anymore because I don't trust myself with one, and chuds will ask me what I'll do if some mentally unwell person high on amphetamines decided to enter my apartment. I guess I'd leave or call an ambulance? It seems so unlikely of a scenario that even if I had a firearm I probably wouldn't use it right, or even register this person as a threat quickly enough to do a John Wick style takedown.

How many home invasions are actually stopped this way? Do chuds all think they're Robocop?

Oh god, you're probably right about this. Suburban white idiots must be getting extremely targeted ads about home security or something. Like in the 90s if you knew a guy with a CCTV system in his house, he was either a paranoid conspiracy theorist or a guy in a mansion who sells cocaine. Now it seems like it's pretty normal for upwardly mobile conservatives to deck their little McMansions out with cameras, security lights, whatever.

One time I was using a VPN once and youtube gave me some kind of targeted ad for gas masks, and the assumption in the ad seemed to be that a sudden apocalyptic disaster was imminent, so I'd better have a gas mask within my safe room. It was wild and opened my eyes to what kind of bizarre panicked rhetoric a lot of upper-middle class conservatives are getting.

Doorbell cameras are extremely normalized because of suburban psychosis, but I feel like actual CCTV systems generally aren't.

I mainly know about ads like the one I linked and have them in my mind as "a thing" rather than undifferentiated background noise because I saw [a different] advertisement from Brink on TV when I was young and it scared the shit out of me.

there is the third possibility which is domestic abuse and the cameras are there to monitor the people within the house. I think home surveilance systems should be illegal for this reason

A lot of it is for deliveries. Imagine having your favorite treats arrive, and then some sneaky low-life [minority] steals them from right under your nose! But if you have cameras, you can give the video to the police and then you get to imagine the brutal justice they will enact on your behalf.

Amazon made it cheap and easy. You buy their door bell/camera, slap it on your door. It's battery operated and snitches directly to the cops, and now there's countless thousands of the fucking things all over the USA>

On the very rare ocaissions all the ad-blockers I have on hiccup Facebook is always trying to sell me body armor, gas masks, insurrection kits, weird christian fascist stuff, and dick pills. It's scary, just pure white male id spewing out of the screen demanding you buy buy buy.
