I've read two articles now, I'm still pretty confused. Concerning because I was going to attend a school for a bit there. I see there's a potential coup and some right wing crazies getting riled up. And that the us is against it... But that's about it.

Can someone help me out here?

You're pretty much spot-on. This is Guatemalan "democracy" at its finest. The right-wing has been complicit in genocide since forever and absolutely hate getting prosecuted for it so they're doing everything they can to stop him from gaining power out of fear he'll do just that. The "International Community" is a god damn joke for hand-wrining about this when they brought it on in the first place.

Is it a coup? I guess even though his time to take the title of President hasn't come yet. He's still a President-elect. It will be a coup when his time comes and they prevent him from taking power at all. They're doing everything to lay the groundwork for it now.
