He understands plenty. His time as the "progressive" candidate is gone. He's just trying to get into the old ghoul's club with the rest of them now. Taking his piece of the pie and coasting on the idea that he used to be "progressive" as a way to deflect criticism.
What club? What benefit does he get from it? He's already a millionaire from selling books, he could retire at any point (and likely will at the end of this term) and be set for life.
I just meant the dems in general, not any specific secret club or anything like that. And you could give that same argument against every US politician. They could just all retire and enjoy the riches they've siphoned off from the public. But they don't.
