This could be an interesting premise but it really looks like they'll go for something like the war starting because civility broke down too much and americans started not seeing each other as one people.

Broadly speaking, that's how every war starts. But I think this is far more fixated on "Imperialism returning to the core as fascism", with conversations about airstrikes on US cities and journalists getting gunned down as folks in between just kinda refuse to accept its happening.
You can definitely have a conversation about economics, but at some level the gears of war turn themselves.
if its a civil war without a red army , i dont wannaseeit.. but this beeing USA ,.. how could they not have their civil war and still have like all 13 Factions beeing devotly Anti- Communist.
