Actually this thread in general is a pretty interesting one, people really calling the sub on their BS

and then it's followed up with dipshits saying "NUH UH LEFTISTS HAVE SO MUCH POWER ON CITY COUNCILS AND THAT DANG WEST COAST"

can they give examples? doubt it, because they are definitely just calling some DemSocs(aka liberals) leftists.

You want me to just list the names of some large U.S. with multiple self-proclaimed socialists or communists on the board? Ok. Oakland, Portland, Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. (bit different due to federal involvement but the mayor is far left)

Fresh comment, 16 mins old. Not a USian but I'm pretty sure this is all bullshit, but someone in the US could probably respond better. (Also, the allegation was not that there were several DSA members on council like Chicago but that "leftists hold a significant amount of power" on city councils), so some slippery bullshit on top.

A couple succs won very low ranking positions in local governments, this means the left can totally derail the Democratic Party

I really want to run for City council at some point and give these people something to really bitch about lol.

Oh I'll reform the police lol.

The ones in Chicago basically have no power. One had a tiny smidgen of power and had it stripped away via a bullshit show off force by one of the most annoying guys on Twitter faking up an assault story.

Philadelphia resident here. Who are the communists or socialists on City Council here?

Are they just complaining about Krasner again?

Kshama Sawant in Seattle. She spearheaded the $15 minimum wage push, probably being the reason any city/county/state anywhere has adopted it. IIRC she's also not running for re-election, and is going to focus on far more important and effective labor organizing and movement building going forward.

I'm pretty sure that's it. Definitely none of the city council members, state politicians, or federal representatives in California anywhere near me are anything even vaguely leftist.

Yea that thread was very much not reassur8ng lol the comment blaming leftists was way more upvoted and the comment saying "You're referring to liberals" when saying the west coast is full of communists was downvoted

I'm living the deep West Coast experience and still waiting to find these alleged elected leftists we have here. Guess I just keep turning my head the wrong way every time they pop their heads up or something.

I can think of exactly one: Kshama Sawant. And she's a long way from my neck of NorCal.

California’s recent issues are due to soft on crime policy and inaction

LMFAO. If only things were a tenth as good as these nitwits try to make them out to be.

I just looked into this and the most left people could find were a few scattered progressives who otherwise work with Democrats anyway. There are a few self described socialists actually, but most of the time they'll be the only one on a city council of 15 people.

There are some DSA members on LA's city council. Apparently one of whom (Eunisses Hernandez) is a prison abolitionist, and that's awesome. But none of these people have majorities and seems like they're only barely tolerated by Democrats.
