I know it's probably just a lead-in to talk about other political issues, but I hate the hook of the article because the actual answer is probably closer to "growing up was always a fiction, people always struggled to keep their shit together, wanted to, and actively relived their past as much as they could, the only difference is that it's acceptable to admit it now".
